A SIMPLE, COST EFFECTIVE AND PORTABLE WELDING OPTION
Stick welding is a simple and cost-effective choice for welders and DIY home projects due to its size, portable nature and ease of use. Although only able to be used on mild steel, stainless steel and cast iron, there are still plenty of applications where stick welding is the number 1 choice. Common stick applications include construction and building, onsite and outdoor welding, fabrication of fences, frames and farm repairs, pipe welding, onsite mining and underwater welding.
Stick welding requires the least amount of equipment and no shielding gas so is perfect for outdoor use. The electrodes are ‘stick-like’ and provide the filler metal for the weld. They have a flux coating to shield the weld from the outside contaminants however this also needs to be chipped away to achieve a clean finish. Stick welding is possible in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions however the level of skill required for overhead stick welding (and the increased PPE) makes it more challenging.
